Environmental Printing Practices

Following are some of the sustainable environmentally friendly printing practices we follow and the green printing options we offer that set Seeds Green Printing apart from conventional printers:

• We offer an extensive variety of eco-friendly papers, including 100% post-consumer waste (PCW) recycled, tree free, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified, as well as paper manufactured using process chlorine-free (PCF) methods. Some of our papers are produced using alternative energy sources, such as wind or biogas. Others have little or no carbon footprint because the manufacturer has purchased alternative energy credits to offset the use of fossil fuels.
• We print less by printing smarter using the latest green printing materials and techniques. Reducing waste is better for the environment and reduces costs.

• We print green with vegetable-based inks instead of highly toxic conventional inks.
• We have eliminated the use of products with high-VOC (volatile organic compounds, which are carcinogenic) levels that release fumes as the product dries or oxidizes to the paper. We currently utilize only materials containing very low or zero VOC compounds.
• We have eliminated the use of varnishes and coating that help protect the printed sheet, replacing them with water-based coating that allows the printed sheets to come off the press dry. The use of water-based coatings also reduces or eliminate the need for excessive spray powders and talc that become airborne and pollute indoor air quality.
• We currently use complete digital-to-plate technology, which minimizes the need for chemicals in film processing.
• We use digital-press technology, which eliminates the need to manufacture metal plates because it utilizes electro-static transfer of ink directly to impression blankets and then to the paper.
• We use digital, zero waste, zero make-ready presses for small 4-color jobs, which allows our clients to do high-quality, four-color production in smaller quantities. This eliminates the need for plates, saves paper, reduces waste, and is more cost effective.
• We utilize digital waterless dry-ink green printing technology, which eliminates emissions, conserves energy, and reduces costs.
• We employ personalized and target-marketing on-demand printing that focuses on quality not quantity to help you market smarter while we reduce print runs, save resources, and lower overall print costs with environmentally friendly printing.
• We recycle all waste paper from set up, folding, and binding operations.
• We recycle used plates to aluminum and plastic recyclers.
• We minimize the carbon footprint of projects by eliminating the conventional means of color checking, which is to send the hard-copy proofs to clients or to have them travel to the plant to check them. For color proofs, we use soft (digital) proofs instead of hard-copy prints and costly color proofing processes, and we use trained representatives to color check press runs. For clients’ convenience, we also provide digital transmission of art.
• We use 100%-recycled boxes for packing and shipping finished products and 100%-recycled packing material for extra protection on special jobs.
• Even our reinforced packing tape is made from recycled materials and uses plant-based water-activated adhesives.
